One Weekend in Lagos: The Perfect Two Day Itinerary

Lagos holds a special place in my heart, and while ideally, I recommend spending at least five days there, I’ve crafted a perfect two-day itinerary for those short on time but eager to experience the beauty of this captivating destination.

Day 1

Morning

My first morning in Lagos I would head to old town Lagos to grab a yummy breakfast and  soak up the historic atmosphere of the town. While here, be sure not to miss iconic landmarks such as the Green House at Luís de Camões Square, and the Lagos Walls which offer a glimpse into the city’s rich heritage.

Afternoon

After exploring the town, I recommend booking a tour on the water and embarking on a thrilling excursion. There are plenty to choose from in Lagos. Personally I’ve done both kayaking and a boat tour and out of the two I found the boat tour more enjoyable. Kayaking was fun but difficult, and I definitely felt it the next day. One of the most popular boat tours Lagos offers is a boat ride to the Benagil Caves. While that one is beautiful don’t overlook tours to Ponta da Piedade which are equally beautiful. These tours typically last anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours and can be found on GetYourGuide or booked through independent websites.

After your wild tour I recommend heading back to your accommodation, changing and possibly taking a light nap to rejuvenate for a night out. Lagos nightlife is something you don’t want to miss!

Evening

Once you’re ready to head back out to old town for dinner. After you’ve eaten, take advantage of happy hour and enjoy some drinks. I also recommend heading to Luís the Camões Square. There’s often life music making for a fun atmosphere.

As the sun sets, venture back into old town for a delicious dinner at one of the charming eateries, savouring the local dishes. After dinner, unwind with refreshing drinks during happy hour specials, perhaps at Luís the Camões Square, which often has live music that creates a fun atmosphere. Don’t be afraid to take part in Lagos’ lively nightlife, explore the local bars and taverns. Some of my favourites are the Three Monkeys Bar, The Tavern, and Bon Vivant. Be sure to stay hydrated and enjoy responsibly!

Day 2

Morning

Today is your ultimate beach day! To kick off your second day in Lagos, pack a back with the essentials for a day of sun and sand, including a towel, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Opt for comfortable footwear to navigate the coastal terrain. Beach access can be a trek in Portugal with many beaches having large staircases to reach the beach.

Start your day with a hearty breakfast then head to a Spar or another shop to grab some lunch, snacks, and water to bring to the beach. With your supplies in tow, make your way to my personal favourite beach, Praia do Camilo, a hidden gem nestled amidst rugged cliffs and azure waters. Descend the wooden staircase and take in the serenity of this beautiful beach. Don’t miss exploring its secluded coves and caves for an added sense of adventure.

Afternoon

Continue your beach escape with a visit to another stunning beach, Praia Dona Ana, where golden sands and crystalline waters await. Spend the afternoon lounging under the sun, swimming in the refreshing ocean, or simply soaking in the coastal beauty that surrounds you.

Evening

As evening approaches, conclude your beach day with a leisurely dinner in old town Lagos. Reflect on the memories made during your weekend getaway, savouring the flavours of Portuguese cuisine against the backdrop of historic surroundings.

A weekend in Lagos is a delightful journey filled with captivating experiences. Whether you’re strolling through the old town’s charming streets, cruising along the azure waters, or basking in the sun on amazing beaches, you’re guaranteed to enjoy your time in Lagos!
